No more Christmas card guilt!

This year I finally admitted what had been obvious to my friends and family for years — I don’t send personalized Holiday cards anymore. I want to, but I don’t. Instead of thoughtfully handwritten notes in specially chosen cards to friends and family, I’m reduced to scribbling my name in the miserable selection of the one box of cards that was left for me to buy the week before Christmas.

It’s too boring, I get burned out after writing a few cards, I think of a million other things I could be doing instead, I want the cards to be perfect…all the same reasons I hear from my clients about why they don’t take the time to declutter or get organized.

So this year I’m trying something different. Each month, I’ll send five cards to people on my list. I’ll fill them in on what I’m up to, share memories of why I treasure their friendship and wish them a wonderful year ahead. That’s about a card a week, and if I keep it this manageable, I’m pretty sure that (a) I’ll do it and (b) I’ll enjoy doing it. Just like organizing, if I make it fun it’ll get done.
