It seemed like such a good idea at the time. Fried chicken in a cast-iron skillet. Could anything seem like a better idea? Of course, a lid to stop the hot oil spattering everywhere would have been a good idea too. And it turns out you can’t just throw a cast-iron skillet in the dishwasher, you have to wash it by hand and dry it properly and then condition it to stop it turning rusty.
Too many moving parts for this low-skilled chef. It’s back to the deli counter for delicious fried chicken pieces and off to a better home for the cast iron skillet. I’ll throw in the candy thermometer I thought I’d use to get the fried chicken just right too. One owner, never used. Send it away Saturday!
