I twisted my ankle really badly four years ago. I had to wear a cast and crutches and everything.
It’s totally better now. As I recall, when I twisted it badly enough to need this brace, I rushed (okay, hobbled) to the doctor’s to check it wasn’t broken. They gave me the brace right then and there.
I’m guessing that if I were to ever twist an ankle badly enough to need this old brace, I’d go to the doctor’s again and they’d give me a new one. In the meantime, every time I come across this I get a pang of sympathetic pain remembering how much it hurt and start thinking about what a hassle it was to twist the ankle that badly. It’s a visual cue for feeling bad all over again so out it goes!
