Have you ever tried to make a photo album, either online or in a book, and gotten totally overwhelmed? Shoved the photos back in the drawer and given up hope of ever getting the thing done?
When you gather all the photos in one place, you can see what you’re dealing with.
Give them a quick once over and toss any blurred, hideous or damaged photos right away. It’s possible that you’ll pull out a photo and have no idea who anyone is. Let those ones go too.
Sort them the way that makes sense to you. Maybe you want them to be chronological. But maybe there are no dates on the back of any of the old photos. In that case, allow yourself to put them in close enough time order. You’re not the designated archivist, no one is going to come and inspect this album and make sure you Got It Right. It’s for you to enjoy.
Maybe you want to arrange the photos by the vacation, by the occasion, by the people in them. Whichever way you choose, have fun pulling out the photos that make you smile and let the rest go. They were effectively discarded when they were in the back of that shoe box all these years anyway.
Once you have the photos you love, want and need, making the albums will be a joy and so will looking at them when you’re done.
