Can you help fix my office too?

Paperwork is the scourge of modern living. Despite all our technological advances, we’re still surrounded by a sea of mail, memos and paper. Sometimes it can feel like we’re drowning. We shove it into files and stuff it under the bed or behind the microwave and that’s just at home. At work our desks are buried in projects and post-its and although we stick the picture of Einstein’s desk and his “if a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what then is an empty desk a sign of?” poster on the last remaining spot on the bulletin board, we secretly wish with all our hearts that we could get a handle on our offices.

It’s no fun having to be a good sport about the endless stream of comments from more organized co-workers about the state of our desk. It’s even less fun to feel constantly behind the curve, shuffling papers to find reports and hoping the more important stuff will somehow rise to the surface. We tell people that we know exactly where everything is but to ourselves we admit that we’re sick of the amount of time and energy it takes to keep that mental map up-to-date.

So yes, I can help fix your office. We’ll find the things that are still current, we’ll set up a very simple filing system for the things you do need to hang onto and we’ll recycle a whole bunch of paper. And although I don’t recommend it, you’ll even be able to eat lunch at your desk by the time we’re done.

Do you feel like you missed the day they taught Organizing 101?
