Maybe you aren’t one of those people troubled by too many possessions in too small a space. Maybe you live somewhere so spacious that there’s honestly room for everything. You have rooms you barely visit. There are bookshelves aplenty no matter how many new books you bring home. The grand piano just tucks into a corner of your music room. The kids have more toys than they can play with but there’s plenty of room in the playroom.
Even if you have the room, do you want to fill your house up with all this stuff? Do you still read any of these books or are they functioning as decorations now? Do you play the piano or is it just something to dust each week? If your kids had fewer toys would they connect with them more? If you had a vision for each of your rooms, what would it be?
When you allow your space to be full of things that are irrelevant to your actual life, even if you have the physical space to do that, there’s no mental space for things in your life that you’ll love. The energy’s all used up on this stuff you’ve accumulated.
When your home isn’t crammed with things you keep just because you have the space for them, there’s room to think and ponder. Maybe you’ll be drawn to a space precisely because it’s got room for you now.
