It’s a huge mess. How will you know where to start?

Perhaps there’s that room. The junk room, where everything that’s been cluttering up the rest of the house goes to hide. It can be very motivating to get the space cleared out and to convert it into a place you’ve always wanted. A sewing room, a den, a home office? What would you like to make that room for?

Other people are overwhelmed by the mail and a backlog of paperwork. In that case, setting up a system for processing the mail and making sure bills get paid, appointments are scheduled and you have a workable way of organizing your time will be the best place to start.

How about getting the garage cleared out first? It’s surprising how often people protect their clutter while the car gets exposed to the ice, hail and snow. Wouldn’t it be lovely to be able to park your car inside again?

I’ve helped many people declutter and get organized so I have a good overall sense of where will be a good place to start in your situation. But I never forget that each person has their own set of priorities and so although I’ll give you my recommendations based on what I see in the initial walk through, in the end, we’ll start right where you want us to start.

Do you feel like you missed the day they taught Organizing 101?
